Maintaining a daily skin care routine is the best way to help keep your skin radiant and healthy. Even though every step is important, there are people that have oily or combination skin and that feel it is unnecessary to moisturize. Nevertheless, this is a grave mistake because moisturizing is actually what helps keep your skin hydrated, supple, and strong.

Everyone, no matter what skin type, needs to moisturize daily. Moisture refers to your skin's water content and not its lipid content. In other words, having dry or oily skin has nothing to do with dryness.

Fortunately, there is a product for every skin type whether you are simply moisturizing dry skin, oily skin, or combination skin.

Moisturizing Combination Skin

Combination skin is a mix of dry skin and oily skin. Therefore, it requires products that are specially designed for it. You can also try a product for dry skin if you have more dry patches or a product for oily skin if you have more oily areas.

Light Products Help Moisturize Oily Skin

People with oily skin should stay away from oil-based products. Instead, try water-based formulas. These products are light enough to absorb quickly without leaving behind pore clogging residue.

As with dry skin, it is also a good idea to apply your moisturizer before your skin is completely dry. Don't forget that skin dryness is all about not having enough moisture and not about having too little oil.

When Moisturizing Dry Skin - Reapply Often

There are probably more products out there for dry skin than for the other skin types, but it can still be a challenge to find the right one for you. First of all you need to determine what type of dry skin you have: regular dry skin or very dry skin. This will determine the type of product you will need.

If you have dry skin then you'll need to use a creamy moisturizer after you've cleansed. As part of your basic routine you will need to moisturize at least twice a day. If you feel that your skin becomes taut during the day, do not hesitate to reapply as needed.

If your skin still feels taut even after you apply a creamy moisturizer, it may be time for oil. You can choose to use a mineral oil, body oil, or a non-comedogenic edible oil like olive oil. Don't forget to apply sunscreen if you are going to be outdoors.

Oil will absorb more quickly than creams. This is one of the reasons that they are more effective for people with very dry skin. In fact, they can also be used on people with dry, sensitive skin because they contain very little additives.
