Nail Care Tips for Nails that You Will be Proud to Show Off

by Jen Hopkins

In our lives, nail care is very important. Having clean and neat nails is one thing that you should remember. This is not as hard as you think because the basic tips on how to care for nails are very easy to learn. All that you have to keep in mind are certain steps such as trimming, cleaning and protecting nails. With all of these in mind, you will be able to maintain your nails.

Ideally, you should always keep your nails short. Since longer nails often accumulate dirt and even be prone to physical damage, growing your nails long is always risky. Fingernails grow faster than the toenails and the average rate of growth is at 3 mm each month. Make sure that you keep track of the growth of your nails to know when you have to cut them. Be very careful with your nails since damaged nails would take around 18 months to regrow.

Trimming of nails should be done such that it will not interfere with your everyday tasks. Some people like to grow their nails long, but this puts nails at risk to be damaged easily, or accumulate dirt. Women may opt to grow their nails longer than males, but be sure that you protect your nails from harm and remember to remove any dirt that gets stuck under the nails immediately.

One way to keep nails strong and healthy is by eating the right kinds of food. Normally, eating a well balanced diet is enough to maintain healthy nails. But if your nails are already soft, you may want to eat foods that are rich in protein, calcium and zinc to help strengthen your nails.

Olive oil is an essential to keep nails healthy. Dipping your nails for at least 30 minutes can help moisturize them. This prevents your nails to be easily damaged, cracked and chipping. Lotion is highly recommended to be used after washing the hands. This also moisturizes the nails since soap can dry them up.

Applying nail polish helps is protecting nails. It does not only make your nails look beautiful. Since it acts as a protective covering for the nails, you should make sure that you apply at least a base coat for nails. Choose products which are both safe for your and the environment when you buy your nails polish.

To put on nail polish as a pro, always use a base coat to prevent chipping of nails and let the polish last longer. Applying nail polish should be done in two coats, and the whole nails should be covered in just three strokes. Always allow nail polish to dry before putting on the next layer. Once the nail polish has dried, put a topcoat to help seal the polish and make it look fresher longer. As much as possible, use nail polish remover that contains hydrating oils to prevent nails from drying.

The maintenance of nails is not as hard as you may think it is. With all of these tips in mind, you will definitely have an easier time when taking care of nails. You can now do these right in the comfort of your own home.
