Advanced Nail Care Tips for Beautiful Nails

by Jen Hopkins

Nail care need not be limited to just the basics, especially for women who want to have beautiful nails. Most women would still go to nail salons to have their nails done. But with some of these advanced nail care tips, you won't even have to go to nail salons and spend money just to have beautiful nails.

The first thing that you should remember with nails is that they are constantly growing. This means that whatever you put into your body affects the way how your nails grow. Having bad eating habits and other vices such as smoking will not help in giving you strong and healthy nails. On the other hand, a good diet together with a healthy lifestyle can contribute to the growth of healthy nails.

Nail polish is also a nail accessory which should be used properly. Women tend to use nail polish freely without thinking of its consequences. The constant use of nail polish may lead to weak and discolored nails due to the constant exposure to the chemicals present in these products. You should leave your nails without any polish from time to time and let them regenerate.

The use of nail polish removers, especially acetone based ones should also be limited. This is because they can cause nails to become dry and brittle. Such nails are prone to breaking easily, which is something that you wouldn't like. Aside from being ugly to look at, cracked nails are also very painful to deal with. It would take a long time before they will go back to normal. So it is better to limit the use of nail polish removers once a week at most.

Similar to how nail polish removers cause nails to become dry, exposure to other chemicals can also lead to the weakening of nails. Chemicals such as bleach when used in cleaning can have the same effect as removers. Mechanical damage such as nail biting should also be avoided. It is best to avoid exposure to these substances and situations by wearing gloves at times when they are needed.

Moisturizing nails through the use of hand lotion may also be a good idea. After washing hands or exposing them to drying agents, the use of hand lotion will instantly hydrate your nails preventing them from drying out easily. An added bonus is that hands also stay soft and nice to touch.

For those who have naturally weak nails, the best solution is by eating the right kinds of food for you nails. Food that is rich in proteins, calcium and zinc may be good for the growth of your nails. Another practice that may help in strengthening your nails is by dipping them in warm olive oil for 30 minutes a few times each week.

With all of these nail care tips, you should have beautiful and healthy nails that you can be proud of even without applying any nail polish. You won't have to settle for nails that are mediocre, and you won't even have to rely on nail salons just to have those beautiful nails that you want.
